Cut 3 Inches Off My Hair…in 20 Minutes: Meet the Master Behind it All!

Vu, Master Stylist – Obadiah Salon

Jeselle, Apprentice – Obadiah Salon

These two made a great team!

Meet master stylist, Vu, who cut my hair.

…And this is Jeselle, his apprentice, who washed, dried, and styled my new do!

Vu agrees with me…hair is one of your biggest accessories – whether in a professional or social setting- so I thought to blog about my awe-mazing experience yesterday in case you are looking for a new stylist in Seattle!

My Goal:
Clean up the ends and style my long layers (hadn’t been cut since January of February). I love a classic layered look that is effortless, professional, flirty…and fun!

What I Value in a Hair Stylist:
Confidence, results, time efficiency…and education to help me understand tips, tricks, and best practices without feeling belittled due to my lack of knowledge.  Vu was ALL of that.  He listened to my take, offered his opinion, then cut my hair in about…20 minutes. I’m convinced it would have been 15, but he was educating both Jeselle and myself all along the way…All together I was in and out of the salon in 1.5 hours with a do I love!  …Now, that’s worth the price of admission.

The BEFORE:

Blow Out – Wavy Locks (Last Week)

Blow Out – Straight Locks (2 Weeks Ago)

Natural Curls (Early August)

The AFTER:

3” taken off the ends, more body, and shine!

The Full Effect – Front

The Full Effect – Side

(4) Pearls of Wisdom I Gleaned from Sittin’ in Vu’s Chair:

  1. Your hair is the most fragile when it is wet. To protect it, brush it out before you hit the shower instead of after you shampoo & condition.
  2. Your hair stretches when wet -so for precision have your stylist do a once over after your blow dry to ensure an even cut.
  3. A great blow out can camouflage a bad haircut!  …Meaning, don’t underestimate the right products, tools, and styling techniques.  All that can make a huge difference, who knew?!
  4. It usually takes 3 days after your hair cut/color for your hair to settle in to what it’s going to “look like”, so sit with it – give it a few days.

Really appreciated Vu’s approach to discovery, education, and implementation.  He takes time to educate so that you can make informed decisions…and his confidence that comes with over 30 years of styling produced such a peace- of-mind and confidence within me that I’ve never had in a chair before.  Ohhhh, maybe that’s the benefit of turning 47!  Nahhhh…it’s Vu!

PS: I’ve never had my hair cut in 20 minutes or less…that’s amazing!!!
