Let’s Do This!
(I just got my shirt this mornin’ so NO, I didn’t plan to coordinate my headband!)

Lotsa people to shout out….today I ran my first race since my last ½ marathon four years ago!  With many #visionblockers getting in the way of an already very short training period, I have many illuminous women to thank for helping me get the result I needed today:

  • Susan Creighton & Jennifer Soames – foam rolled it out and did neck stretches this morning, thinking of you both along the way. If all else fails, ensure you get the proper stretching in.
  • Cindy Kamrin– educated me on the Melaleuca way supplying my energy bars and electrolyte drinks for replenishment (delish)!
  • Dr. Paula Wrentmore – Thank you for saying YES to my recovery…Can’t wait to get my massage tomorrow, I so need it!!!

LESSONS LEARNED on RACE DAY:

  • Mindset is Everything – This vision board was from 6 years ago when I began running for the first time.  Since it was almost 4 years since my last race, I pulled it back out.  Why?  Because we do exactly what we focus on.  Mindset is everything and I needed to shape my focus.

ACTION ITEM:  More than anything else, including appearance – get your frame of mind right before you do anything! If need be turn your written goals into a vision board and place it where you can see it often.

The Vision Board I Created after My 1st Ever Training Race 6 years ago.  Why Did I Create?  Because I almost quit after running “Beat the Bridge” in the rain.  It was “hard”.  I realized mindset is the foundation of success when learning to run and I needed to see constant visuals of what what was #true so I could…reprogram my thinking.

  • Keep your commitments – Though LIFE was getting in our way: I was robbed last week, we had a change in race day availability…we finally registered ing yesterday afternoon…That said, we kept our “YES” to ourselves  but gave ourselves permission to make #MidcourseAdjustments.  For us that meant allowing a shift in thinking:  Allowing a break to walk if need be, and a mindset of “we don’t have to run to be first, but to finish.”

ACTION ITEM:  Keep your YES commitments to yourself and others (integrity) whenever you can in the #Minor things in life.  In this way you will be ready and courageous to keep your YES in the #Majors.

We Did It!!!

  • Create Bite Size Goals – When you have a goal and you find you’re runnin’ into obstacles, keep your eye on the prize and #JustDoIt. Don’t quit, just create smaller goals you know you can achieve and before you know it you will be exactly where you want to be.  For today’s race, at times that meant saying we’d “run up the hill just past those cones and speed walk for a few” or shift to walking when we hit Main Street.

ACTION ITEM:  Consider a goal you’re currently struggling with.  To keep the momentum going (or to jump start it), what one piece can you unpack and chunk out into a smaller achievable goal right now?

  • Surround yourself w/folks who want to see you succeed – As the saying goes, “you are the sum of the 5 people you hang around most.” Choose to be around positive and uplifting people who truly want your best. People who truly care about you will encourage your best and not shame you when you fall short or make a mistake.   If they really want to see you succeeded they will even offer suggestions as to how you can achieve success along the way and finish strong.  That’s what my running partner and friend Susan did for me today!

ACTION ITEM:  Take an inventory of your current 5.  How are they supporting you in business and in life?  …And how are you showing up for others?
