Forgiveness isn’t an easy gig…..I wrote about this topic
in my co-authored book, Incredible Life….”From Fear to Freedom”.
A couple of things:
*I haven’t arrived; FREEDOM & forgiveness are a
process – a journey, not a destination.
*Ironically, just today I had the opportunity to
choose forgiveness with a new friend. That story may come later, but a key
point is that if we don’t choose to forgive we become bitter. Bitterness turns
into a lack of forgiveness whereby both people become prisoners. You have
imprisoned the perpetrator and you have also imprisoned yourself.
…..I have had a lot of “wrong” in my life. Some I
brought upon myself, but most that was done to me. That said, as I began to
“value” freedom, peace, and the possibility of a better story, I stepped out of
victim mentality and into forgiveness. Additionally, I moved out of shame and
shockingly was able to share my story (s) in hope that it would be of benefit
to others who might be struggling with similar experiences/issues.
In Incredible Life a few things I write regarding forgiveness:
1. “Accept that people are not perfect. Sometimes
people act from their own pain, fear, and experience. When someone is being
hurtful toward you, choose to investigate the reason behind the behavior…….While
this does not excuse wrong behavior or give license to hurt people, it provides
perspective and perhaps a measure of grace to forgive. ”
2. Get rid of toxic relationships and set healthy
boundaries. Boundaries are designed to keep love in, not out, and they help
with forgiveness…”
